CBS Commits Random Act of Journalism – Three Taxpayers Pleasantly Surprised by Tax Bill

Posted: December 28, 2017 at 3:24 pm   /   by

With their hair on fire, Democrats like Nancy Pelosi have been wailing about how the just-passed tax legislation will devastate the middle class by actually increasing their tax bills.

Of course that kind of knee-jerk hip-shot demagoguery is not unusual for Democrats. What is unusual is that at least one normally Democrat-servile news network, CBS, did some real research and real reporting, as shown in the accompanying video.

CBS actually got hold of three past tax returns from a lower-middle-, middle-, and upper-middle-income taxpayer and had an accountant re-compute their taxes under the new tax provisions.

What happened? Watch the video. Hear the taxpayers’ words and watch their expressions.  It turns out all three can expect a reduction in their tax bill and more money in their pockets in 2018!

But how can that be? Had they been quick enough, one or more taxpayers might have asked: “So why did Nancy Pelosi lie to us about this?” (Maybe one or more actually did ask, but the material got left on the cutting room floor.  Oh, darn!)

I’m amazed the Democrats would blow what’s left of their credibility on demagogic claims when those claims can be so easily debunked so soon and just before an election. Maybe the Dems just aren’t that smart(?).

Gee whiz, their global warming meme has been so much more effective — that one is good for decades of demagoguery, whereas their tax-law lie is already coming apart.

So …

If Republicans can avoid getting hung up in their own underwear, as they usually do, they have a great campaign theme coming. As Newt Gingrich put it, quite simply, the message to 2018 voters should be this:

Do you want higher taxes, bigger bureaucracy, more power in Washington, and a smaller economy with lower take-home pay and fewer jobs? If yes, vote Democrat, because that is what they stand for and will continue to vote for [in 2018].

If you want a bigger economy, more jobs, more take-home pay, less power with Washington bureaucrats, and lower taxes with more money in your pocket, then vote Republican.

Newt then adds:

If Republicans can learn to tell the truth better than the elite media and Democrats lie, the GOP will win an astonishing victory in 2018.

That sounds good to me!

Frankly, I thought the Democrats were going to try turning the corner when they unveiled their “Better Deal” initiative. But alas, they’ve already stopped talking about that and returned to cultivating their usual race/gender/class victim-hood themes.

If the GOP bosses can’t figure out how to play a hand as strong as the one they’ve got here, they should hire a top-flight PR firm to design their messaging for them and ask Newt Gingrich to provide some oversight for the campaign. If they pick a good one, I’d contribute personally to pay for that PR firm.
