Senator Rand Paul Says DOJ/FBI Collusion Bigger Than Watergate
Senator Rand Paul made what amounted to a huge admission Thursday when he said that the evidence that has materialized of late suggesting a conspiracy against Donald Trump is a bigger story than Watergate.
In the interview on Fox’s “America’s Newsroom” he was discussing with Bill Hemmer his concerns about the intelligence use of FISA warrants that he fill must be addressed before another long-term budget is released. While talking about violations of American privacy in the guise of fighting terrorism he brought up the spying on Trump associates that did in fact take place under the Obama administration, surveillance that was initially denied.
Then Senator Paul went on to accuse members of the DOJ and FBI and the Democrat Party of colluding against then-presidential candidate Trump.
Paul: There needs to be more oversight, and I think this most recent controversy with the intelligence community. There’s now allegations that both, in the FBI and in the Department of Justice, there basically was collusion to try to prevent Donald Trump from becoming President. This kind of group of people that has such tremendous power needs more oversight, not less oversight.
Hemmer: That is a strong statement. What’s your evidence to back it up?
Paul: Well we now have the FBI, we have an FBI agent talking to his mistress, and then also saying ‘Andy,’ that we met together in this office to discuss, basically ways to have an insurance policy that Donald Trump doesn’t get elected. I think that that should be a fireable offense, and it sounds like collusion. But then you also have the Department of Justice where you have a high-ranking official whose wife works for the group doing opposition research being paid for by the Democrat National Committee. That sounds like a lot of high ranking people colluding to try to prevent Donald Trump from being President. You know we’ve had this investigation about Trump/Russian collusion, maybe we need an investigation about high-ranking Obama officials colluding to try and prevent Trump from being President. That’s more serious than even Watergate.
This is a huge revelation, because it shows that the the circle of discontent in the Republican ranks with regards to what happened to Donald Trump with the fake Trump dossier that was collected by Christopher Steele is growing, and not merely the rankings of a few members. Anyone who dispassionately looks at the findings of the past few weeks, and who cared about our democratic processes and constitutional government should be concerned. There are people in the highest positions of power, who obviously abused that power for political reasons, and to this point it is the victim of that abuse—Donald Trump and company—who are being investigated, while the real criminals remain shielded.
