Trump Withdraws U.S. From UN Migrant And Refugee Compact

YES!!!!   Dave

Dominique Mosbergen               HuffPost                  December 3, 2017

Continuing his “America First” approach to foreign policy, President Donald Trump has pulled the U.S. out of a United Nations compact seeking global cooperation to protect the safety and rights of refugees and migrants.

Trump’s decision to end America’s “participation in the Global Compact on Migration” was disclosed on Saturday by the U.S. Mission to the U.N. Nikki Haley, the U.S. ambassador to the U.N., explained in a statement that the pact’s “global approach” was “simply not compatible with U.S. sovereignty.”

“[O]ur decisions on immigration policies must always be made by Americans and Americans alone. We will decide how best to control our borders and who will be allowed to enter our country,” Haley said…

IS conflict: US to withdraw 400 Marines from Syria

The most interesting thing here is the map…

…which shows that the Kurdish-held portion of Syria is huge

The Kurds are the closest thing we have to an ally in Syria…

…capable of holding territory after the U.S. withdraws…

The “Syrian rebels” have always been weak horses…

…with almost no territorial coherence…

…which means they will collapse as soon as we stop propping them up…

If the Syrian Kurds can defend their new proto-country…

…or even better, unite with Iraqi Kurds to form a single large country…

…we will have the closest thing to a major reliable ally in the region…

They are going to need our backing for their survival, much like Israel…

…and after 25 years of appreciating American support…

…(since Bush #1 established the no-fly zone on Saddam Hussein)…

…they are the least likely of the nations in the region to bite the hand that feeds…

Kurdistan is the brightest spot in an otherwise gloomy picture…

…where all of our efforts to defeat ISIS will ultimately restore territory…

…to the Iran-allied rulers of Syria and Iraq…

BUT… if we turn a cold shoulder to the Kurds to please Turkey…

…that last flicker of light could also go dark…   Dave

BBC News              30 November 2017

More than 400 US Marines are to leave Syria after helping to capture the city of Raqqa from so-called Islamic State. Marine units have been deployed since March to provide artillery support to an alliance of Syrian Kurdish and Arab fighters battling the jihadist group.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) declared victory in Raqqa last month.

The US-led coalition against IS said the withdrawal of the Marine artillery battery was a “sign of real progress”. “We’re drawing down combat forces where it makes sense, but still continuing our efforts to help Syrian and Iraqi partners maintain security,” Brig-Gen Jonathan Braga, the director of operations for the coalition, said in a statement.

BBC defence correspondent Jonathan Marcus says the Marine artillery battery was the most significant combat element deployed by the Americans on the ground, bolstering the impact of US and coalition air power.  With IS as a territorial entity largely defeated there is no longer any need for the battery, our correspondent adds. Thus its departure marks the end of a significant phase in the battle against IS.

On Monday, the Pentagon said there 503 military personnel in Syria. However, the figure was far short of the 1,723 – including 618 Marines – listed in the most recent quarterly report by the Defense Manpower Data Center. Most of the US troops in Syria are stationed in northern areas controlled by the SDF, whose fighters are currently advancing through Deir al-Zour province.

Last week, the Pentagon said it was reviewing “adjustments” in military support it gave to partners inside Syria. They include the SDF, which is led by a Kurdish militia known as the People’s Protection Units (YPG). Turkey says US President Donald Trump has promised to stop supplying arms to the YPG, which Ankara considers an extension of the banned Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which is fighting for Kurdish autonomy in Turkey. However, this has neither been confirmed nor denied by Washington…

Trump Claims He Never Asked Former FBI Director James Comey to Stop Investigating Flynn

Jenni Fink              Independent Journal Review              Dec 3, 2017

On Friday, former National Security Advisor Gen. Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to making false statements to the FBI. As part of his plea deal, he agreed to cooperate with an investigation into Russia’s possible involvement in the presidential election.

In response, President Donald Trump told reporters he wasn’t worried about what Flynn would tell investigators. He later tweeted that there was “nothing to hide” and he fired Flynn because he lied to Vice President Mike Pence and the FBI, not because he engaged in unlawful behavior.

During former FBI Director James Comey’s prepared remarks for his Senate hearing in June, he said that Trump had a conversation with him after Trump fired Flynn. Comey claimed Trump called Flynn a “good guy” who “has been through a lot” and asked that the then FBI director let “Flynn go.”

“He repeated that Flynn hadn’t done anything wrong on his calls with the Russians, but had misled the vice president,” Comey claimed. “He then said, ‘I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go. He is a good guy. I hope you can let this go.’”

Critics claimed that if the president knew Flynn lied and asked Comey to not pursue an investigation, it could be an obstruction of justice. However, on Sunday, the president again denied he tried to convince Comey to turn a blind eye.

“I never asked Comey to stop investigating Flynn,” Trump tweeted. “Just more Fake News covering another Comey lie!”…

Dershowitz: Flynn Plea Is ‘A Show of Weakness’ for Mueller

Ian Hanchett          Breitbart News          2 Dec 2017

On Saturday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends,” Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz argued that former Trump National Security Adviser Michael Flynn’s guilty plea is a “show of weakness” for Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

Dershowitz said, “Well, the last thing any prosecutor wants to do is to have to indict his primary witness for lying. Because if you indict your witness for lying, it really means he’s not useful as a witness, he has no credibility. I’m sure the prosecutor was trying to indict him for some scheme or conspiracy that involved other people in the White House, but there is nothing there, and he had to, finally come down and indict him for lying, which makes him a useless witness. So, this is not a show of strength by the prosecutor. It’s a show of weakness. It’s a show that they really have nothing on anybody above of Flynn and that Flynn made the terrible mistake about lying about something he could have told truth about. Because the two things he lied about were perfectly lawful and perfectly proper for somebody to do during the transition. And so, I think it really reflects a weakness, not a strength in Mueller’s prosecution…

New documents reveal FBI’s Clinton cover-up

Tom Fitton                 Fox News             December 3, 2017

American Center for Law and Justice says documents show FBI was more focused on keeping the meeting quiet than the meeting itself.

In Washington, the ostensible story is rarely the real story. We know, for example, that former President Clinton engineered a meeting with President Obama’s attorney general, Loretta Lynch, on the tarmac of the Phoenix Airport on June 27, 2016.

That’s the official story, replete with the charming and intentionally disarming detail that all they talked about was their grandchildren. It was just coincidental, don’t you know, that at the time the FBI was looking into Hillary Clinton’s use of a “personal” email server to send, receive and store classified information.

And it was also simply coincidental that just a few days later, the director of the FBI – who served under Attorney General Lynch – announced that he wouldn’t recommend a prosecution of Hillary Clinton…

Holder, Comey fight Trump’s FBI slam: ‘Not letting this go’

Nicole Darrah                Fox News                 December 3, 2017

Agencies accused of withholding key documents, FBI witness that could shed light on whether U.S. officials relied on anti-Trump ‘dossier’ to justify surveillance against associates of Donald Trump; chief Washington correspondent James Rosen reports.  Former Attorney General Eric Holder and ex-FBI Director James Comey fired back Sunday at President Trump, who claimed the FBI’s reputation is in “tatters” after its handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation.

“Nope. Not letting this go. The FBI’s reputation is not in ‘tatters,’” Holder, who served as attorney general under President Obama, tweeted. “It’s composed of the same dedicated men and women who have always worked there and who do a great, apolitical job… You’ll find integrity and honesty at FBI headquarters and not at 1600 Penn Ave right now,” referring to the White House.

Trump earlier Sunday said that “after years of Comey, with the phony and dishonest Clinton investigation (and more), running the FBI, its reputation is in Tatters – worst in history! But fear not, we will bring it back to greatness.”

The president’s tweet followed news that FBI agent Peter Strzok was removed from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia because of anti-Trump text messages he may have sent. Meanwhile, Comey tweeted what seemed to be a response of this own, quoting a statement he gave to the Senate Intelligence Committee last June…

Hard Drive Tied to Wasserman Schultz is Central To Imran Awan Case

Luke Rosiak                  Daily Caller News Foundation               November 29, 2017

A court date for a former Democratic IT aide has been postponed by more than a month after the defendant’s attorney, a former Hillary Clinton aide, said he’s seeking to block prosecutors from using evidence that appears to include a government laptop tied to Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

“The government has been in discussions with counsel for the defendants regarding complex discovery issues and other legal issues in this case, in particular issues surrounding claims of attorney-client privilege being raised by defendant Imran Awan,” court papers filed Tuesday say.

“Last night, counsel for both defendants indicated that they need additional time to review and analyze these issues, along with the voluminous discovery the government provided in this case,” according to the documents. “The government consents to this request.”

Chris Gowen, Awan’s attorney, said at the last hearing: “We do expect there being an attorney-client privilege issue in this case… What occurred is a backpack from my client was found, he was trying to get a better signal, there was a note that said attorney client privilege and a hard drive. We feel very strongly about this.”

Capitol Police report shows that the backpack contained the following items:

#1 a Pakistani ID card with the name Mohommed Ashraf Awan
#2 a copy – not original – of a driver’s license with name Imran Awan
#3 a copy (front and back) of his congressional ID
#4 an Apple laptop with the homescreen initials ‘RepDWS’
#5 composition notebooks with notes handwritten saying ‘attorney client privilege’ and possibly discussing case details below
#6 loose letters addressed to US Attorney of DC discussing the apparent owner of the bag being investigated.

It is unclear how the handwritten note saying “attorney client privilege” could be construed to cover a hard drive, rather than the pages of notebook it was contained on…

Anti-Semite Linda Sarsour Blames Jews for her Bad Image

Jeff Dunetz                Constitution.com                December 1, 2017

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears and the summit of his knowledge. It is a dimension where a school hosts a conference on Antisemitism and invites an anti-Semite to speak. That’s the signpost up ahead — your next stop, the Linda Sarsour Zone

This is beyond crazy. The fact that the New School invited an anti-Semite like Linda Sarsour to speak at an event entitled “Anti-Semitism and the Struggle for Justice” is crazy enough, but the fact that she used the opportunity to spew an anti-Semitic stereotype, pushes it into the Twilight Zone.

During her words at the event, Sarsour used the anti-Semitic canard about Jews controlling the media.

“If what you’re reading all day long, morning and night, in the Jewish media is that Linda Sarsour and Minister Farrakhan are the existential threats to the Jewish community, something really bad is gonna happen and we gonna miss the mark on it,” Sarsour remarked in an event intended to be “a discussion on how to combat” bigotry against Jews.

Sarsour also claimed that “the existential threat (to the Jewish community) resides in the White House, in the highest offices of these lands.” She also claimed that Americans currently live “under fascism” and defended her participation in the boycott, divest, sanction movement, which seeks to economically sanction and isolate the Jewish state.

If the Jews really controlled the media she would never receive coverage, nor would her protector in the Senate, Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), or her other fans such as NY Governor Cuomo, or the liberal anti-Trump women who have been running protests such as The Day Without Women. Heck if the Jews controlled the media I would be a regular contributor to a cable news network…

Robert Fulford: Mattel thinks hijab Barbie is cute and progressive. It’s not

The hijab is more than a way of dressing. It’s a symbol that often stands for an array of social customs and regulations

Robert Fulford                National Post                December 1, 2017

In a burst of bogus feminism and commercial ambition, Mattel Inc., the global doll-maker, has announced that in 2018 it will market a Barbie doll wearing a hijab. Barbie dolls rarely impinge on political and social issues but this one is so unsettling that it evokes a wide range of responses…

Mattel fashioned their hijab Barbie after a real young woman, Ibtihaj Muhammad, a New Jersey-born athlete whose Muslim parents steered her toward fencing because it would allow her to be fully covered… She’s collaborating with Mattel and has seen her Barbie replica, looking like her right down to the fencing uniform and white hijab. “I’m so excited!” she exclaimed. She recalled playing with Barbie dolls and wishing one of them looked like her. She didn’t have Barbies that wore a headscarf, so she and her sisters would sew their own…

In those countries, regions or neighbourhoods, the future for girls is narrowly circumscribed. As they grow from childhood to maturity they often find it hard to get an education, a job or a personal bank account. A woman realizes eventually that she’s not to be seen in public with an adult male, unless he’s her husband or a close relative. A girl’s husband may be chosen by her family. Women may have their own ambitions but the key choices in their lives are not theirs to make.

The gang at Mattel Inc. does not know (or want us to know) that the hijab is more than a way of dressing. It’s a necessary symbol that often stands for an array of social customs and regulations. Unlike others in the Barbie catalogue, it is not an outfit a woman can wear or not, according to her wishes.

With this product Mattel illustrates the unfortunately widespread American wish to learn as little as possible about Islam and Islamic societies while allowing ignorance to raise profits. Hijab Barbie may well open new markets in the Middle East…

Yemen’s rebel alliance unravels amid Sanaa street clashes

As has been said many times in Islam Update

…the best metaphor for what we’re seeing in the Middle East…

…is a mutiny on a pirate ship…

There are no good guys here…

All are untrustworthy and fundamentally opposed to democratic values…

There is no way we can fix these people because Islam teaches them to hold us in contempt…

Moreover, the real war being fought here is between Iran and Saudi Arabia…

…and if we entangle ourselves, this war could easily become one between the U.S. and Russia…

Our best bet is to agree with Russia not to enter this war theater…

…and to quarantine the area as much as possible, so that jihadists cannot escape to the West…

At that point, we can let Saudi Arabia and Iran knock each other out through their proxies…

In this way we can distract both Islamist nations from spreading Islam and jihadis around the world…

…as they waste their energy, wealth, fighters, and morale destroying each other…

The more they do this, the more they discredit Islam in the eyes of Muslim and non-Muslim alike…

They will also starve their ability to build mosques, madrasas, and influence campaigns in the West…   Dave

Ahmed Al-Haj               Associated Press               December 3, 2017

SANAA, Yemen — Snipers took over rooftops in residential areas, tanks deployed and militiamen set up checkpoints Sunday across the Yemeni capital, where fighting forced families to hunker down indoors in anticipation of more violence.

Five days of bombings and heavy gunfire have underscored the unraveling of the already fragile alliance between Yemen’s strongman and former president, Ali Abdullah Saleh, and the Shiite rebels known as Houthis. The two sides joined ranks three years ago and swept across the capital, Sanaa, forcing the country’s internationally recognized president to flee the country and seek military intervention led by Saudi Arabia.

After months of political and military stalemate, the street battles between Saleh’s forces and the Houthi militiamen have marked a turning point in the conflict. The two sides had been enemies before the six-year-war that began in 2004 when Saleh was a president. Their alliance, in the eyes of many Yemenis, was doomed to fail given their stark differences.

The Iran-backed rebels perceive themselves as a religious awakening movement, while Saleh is a pragmatic politician, shifting political alliances, buying tribal loyalties and exploiting Yemen’s power fault lines throughout his three-decades in power before he was ousted after the country’s Arab Spring uprising in 2011.

Over the past 48 hours, in a series of surprise announcements, all of Yemen’s political players spoke about turning a new page and unifying against the Houthis — a new alliance that appeared to have been in the making for some time as the Shiite rebels have accused Saleh of working against them…

UAE denies claim of Yemen missile attack against its plant

Aya Batrawy and Jon Gambrell               Associated Press               December 2, 2017

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The United Arab Emirates on Sunday denied a claim by Yemen’s Shiite rebels that they fired a missile toward an under-construction Emirati nuclear plant. The denial came as heavy fighting in Yemen’s capital unraveled a rebel alliance that has been at war with a Saudi-led coalition, including the UAE…

The $20 billion Barakah nuclear power plant, being built with help from South Korea, is near Abu Dhabi’s border with Saudi Arabia. The plant lies some 225 kilometers (140 miles) west of the UAE capital. The first of its four reactors is scheduled to come online in 2018. When fully built, officials hope the nuclear plant will provide up to 25 percent of all energy needs in the UAE, a federation of seven sheikhdoms on the Arabian Peninsula.

The UAE is a major U.S. ally that hosts some 5,000 American troops and is the U.S. Navy’s busiest foreign port of call… Like other U.S. Gulf allies in the region, the UAE has the Patriot Missile defense system capable of shooting down ballistic missiles and is the only international client to have on delivery the U.S.-made Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system.

The Houthis last month had targeted the Saudi capital, Riyadh, with a ballistic missile that was intercepted by Saudi air defenses. It was the deepest strike inside the kingdom since the war between the Saudi-led coalition and the Houthis and their allies began in March 2015…

WATCH: Jordanian Sermon: ‘Only Sword Will Resolve Struggle with Zionists’

A new video demonstrates just how fragile the peace agreement between Israel and Jordan may be.

United with Israel                Dec 3, 2017

While Israel made significant concessions on water rights and other issues in order to reach a peace agreement with Jordan in 1994, critics warned that the promise of peace from the ruling Hashemites might not be respected by future Jordanian leaders.

During a Friday sermon at the Al-Zaytoonah University Mosque in Amman, Jordan, Dr. Ahmad Shahrouri illustrates the fragility of this peace agreement, with the speaker attacking “fraudulent politicians” for signing peace treaties with Israel.

Shahrouri’s conclusion, that “only the sword will resolve the struggle with the Zionists,” declared from the capital city of a nation which is benefiting from a peace agreement with Israel, raises serious questions about Jordanians’ real attitudes toward peace with the Jewish state…

And now they are going to pay to send them back home…

Tar and feathers, anyone?    Dave

Associated Press              December 3, 2017

BERLIN –  Germany wants to support rejected asylum-seekers who voluntarily move back to their home countries with a one-time payment of 3,000 euros ($3,570).

The Interior Ministry says those who qualify can apply by a Feb. 28 deadline and they would get the money once they return home.

Migrants who agree to go back even before their asylum request is rejected have already been offered 1,200 euros per adult and 600 euros per child under a different program for almost a year. They are now eligible to apply for both programs.

But the Bild am Sonntag newspaper reported Sunday that 8,639 migrants participated in the returnee program between February and October, even though there are about 115,000 rejected asylum-seekers in Germany —many of whom can’t be deported for humanitarian reasons…

Possible Radical Islamic Nail Bomb Detonated at Christmas Market

Andrew West                Constitution.com             December 1, 2017

Potsdam, Germany – Radical Islamic terror groups such as ISIS have been preparing to make Christmas season 2017 one of the bloodiest the world has ever known.

These despicable caliphate organizations have long been waging war on the Christian religion and the world that surrounds them, with a swift uptick in attacks coming around the holiday season that fills the gap between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.  With Europe already swarming with ISIS wolves disguised as Syrian refugee sheep, it comes as no surprise that the first of these Christmas-centric terror attacks has occurred in the German city of Potsdam.

Pope Francis Tears at History’s Walls against Islam

Raymond Ibrahim                   FrontPage Magazine              02/24/2017

Pope Francis continues to argue for two interrelated points that, while seemingly humane, compromise Western nations and expose their citizens to danger.

He reiterated his first point earlier this month when he said, “I appeal not to create walls but to build bridges.”  Francis has made this appeal frequently, both figuratively (when imploring Western nations not to close their doors against more incoming Muslim migrants) and literally (for instance by characterizing Donald Trump’s proposal to build a U.S.-Mexico wall as “not Christian”).

Francis reiterated his second point a few days ago when he said, “Muslim terrorism does not exist.”  His logic is that, because there are Christians who engage in criminal and violent activities—and yet no one blames Christianity for their behavior—so too should Islam not be blamed when Muslims engage in criminal and violent activities.

In this, the Catholic pope appears unable or unwilling to make the pivotal distinction between violence committed in accordance with Islamic teachings, and violence committed in contradiction of Christian teachings.

But there’s another relevant and often overlooked irony: every morning Francis wakes up in the Vatican and looks out his window he sees a very large and concrete reminder that gives the lie to both his argument against walls and his argument in defense of Islam. I speak of the great walls surrounding Vatican City, more specifically the Leonine Walls…

…in 846, Muslim fleets from North Africa landed near Rome.  Unable to breach the walls of the Eternal City, they sacked and despoiled the surrounding countryside, including—to the consternation of Christendom—the venerated and centuries-old basilicas of St. Peter and St. Paul.  The Muslim invaders desecrated the tombs of the revered apostles and stripped them of all their treasures.  Pope Leo IV (847-855) responded by building large walls and fortifications along the right bank of the Tiber to protect the sacred sites from further Muslim raids.  Completed by 852, the walls were in places 40 feet high and 12 feet thick…

New Boko Haram strategy focuses on fortress towns in Nigeria

Fox News                December 3, 2017

After eight years of conflict with Boko Haram, Nigeria has a new strategy to protect its citizens from the terrorist group: fortress towns. Some of the nearly 2 million displaced people who have fled rural areas in northeast Nigeria now will be housed in fortified towns, ringed by farms, with the rest of the countryside effectively left to fend for itself.

This new vision for the Borno state is a stark admission of the harsh reality on the ground. For two years, the military and government have said Boko Haram is all but defeated, and the remnants are being mopped up. However, the military is largely unable to control territory beyond the cities and towns it has wrested back from Boko Haram…
