Dem. Representative Introduces Bill To Strip Trump of Powers
David Cicilline, a Democrat Representative from Rhode Island posted a letter on Twitter calling for Congress to restrict the authority of President Trump to issue a pre-emptive nuclear strike.
The congressman sent the letter to Speaker Ryan demanding Congress restrict President Trump from being able to launch a nuclear strike first, as if that was going to happen.
Before proceeding, let it be known that President Trump has never threatened a pre-emptive nuclear strike. He has suggested that pre-emptive military action is on the table, but most of his rhetoric has been of the responsive variety: meaning that if Kim Jong Un does something, then he plans on responding with disproportionate force, and if Kim Jong Un goes nuclear, then the U.S. may do likewise.
The insanity of the Democrats has become apparent with gimmick bills like this, since they are both an exercise in hyperbole of the worst kind, as they accuse Trump of something he has never suggested, and they also show the length to which the Democrats are willing to try and go to usurp the legitimate powers vested in the executive office that Trump holds, simply because they don’t like the fact that he is the one the American public voted to hold that office.
The bill, H.R. 669, or, the Restricting First Use of Nuclear Weapons Act, would prohibit the President of the United States from conducting a first-use nuclear strike without prior authorization from Congress—an authority that the Constitution gives to the President.
According to the feckless Cicilline and his Democrat colleagues, President Trump’s “words” are the real harm here, and hence, his due authority should be stricken from him because, well because, it should!
Cicilline conveniently forgets that we are here today because Bill Clinton gave North Korea two $2 billion nuclear water reactors, and the last several years the Obama administration spent ignoring N. Korea’s threats and increased missile testing, which only emboldened Kim Jong Un.
Trump for his part, has imposed the harshest restrictions ever on the N. Korea regime, and with a 15-0, security council vote to boot. He is not acting arbitrarily, or even unilaterally, but yes, he is using very strong and frank language to leave no doubt that if forced to act, he will.
“Tough” talk of course scares spineless men like Cicilline, and so his response is to draft a bill, then pen a letter, to Paul Ryan calling for the divestment of Trump from his constitutional authority as Commander in Chief. Hopefully Ryan pays them the heed they deserve and throws them both in the nearest waste basket.
