American Mythbuster – Busting the Myths of History with Music!

Posted: August 12, 2017 at 1:30 pm   /   by

Dr. Steve Carol is mostly known (especially in Arizona) as a teacher, lecturer, author, and radio show personality on history — especially accurate history. What most do not know is that he has combined his love of history with music, writing Western-style songs on American history.

In this musical video, Dr. Carol dispels some of the most popular myths that have somehow stuck in American history. The song depicts a broad expanse of U.S. history from the “discovery” of America through the Cuban-Spanish-American War. It emphasizes the real historic version of the events mentioned and not the commonly held myths about them, e.g. “Betsy Ross designed the first U.S. flag.” It is intended for the general public — anyone interested in or learning U.S. history.

When not writing songs, Dr. Carol is writing books — his latest is Understanding the Volatile and Dangerous Middle East.  He broadcasts on radio, twice a month on Sundays on KKNT 960AM “The Patriot,” Arizona, at 12 noon. He is also a frequent public speaker on Middle East history and politics.

If you’d like to comment on Dr. Carol’s “American Mythbuster” song, you may contact him at [email protected] and put “about your songs” in the subject line. See also (and listen to) “History Set to Music – Civil War Battle of the Ironclad Ships at this link.

Inspired by his new home state, Arizona, (where he’s actually lived for 25 years and counting) historian Dr. Carol also wrote a song about it titled The Copper Star in which he covers geography, history, economy, and vexillology (the study of flags), as well as what a wonderful place Arizona is to live in – all in under four minutes! He dedicated it to the centennial of Arizona statehood (2012).

You can hear The Copper Star at this link. If Arizona ever updates in official state song, the The Copper Star would be an excellent replacement candidate!
